Not to be confused with the Embassy of Ireland, this one is a real Irish pub!!

A cheerfully hip energy pervades this extremely popular Plateau Mont-Royal bar, rated as one of Montreal's top 10. The decor is thoroughly unique; it's sort of a "Prague cafe" theme accentuated by ostrich heads poking out of the walls, high ceilings and excellent music (live during the days, DJs every night). Youngish journalists and other left-of-center professionals enjoy very reasonably priced microbrews (including the full line of Cheval Blanc beers), and it's usually packed. The name is pronounced "Billy Coon."

Happy Hour at LE QUARTIER (8 April)

Following the closure of The Manhattan Bar last month, it appears LE QUARTIER will also be going through some changes. Business has been tough for the restaurant/bar, which offers $3 martini and mini burgers on Fridays. Those familiar with the Le Quartier scene will recall that most of the 'action' occurs on Thursdays only. And die-hard Q92 radio fans may have noticed that Q92 radio did not broadcast live from Le Quartier last Saturday.

Hence, Le Quartier will soon change ownership, and we expect it to close anytime.

Although clearly not a recent favorite due to fierce competition from other bars in the area (Le Confessional, Vauvert, etc), Le Quartier was once the regular venue for Thursday Happy Hour...

I look forward to seeing you at Le Quartier this Thursday, 8 April 2010, as this would probably be one of the last 5 à 7 there.

Top 10 excuses you can't make it to the happy hour

These are some of the excuses we have heard:

1. I have a flat tire.
2. I'm getting a haircut.
3. I have to feed the dog/cat.
4. I'm taking a break from alcohol.
5. I'm getting snow tires put on/taken off.
6. I have exams.
7. I'm training for a competition.
8. I'm still recovering from the previous Thursday happy hour.
9. I didn't receive the e-mail announcement.
10.I forgot it was Thursday.

Manhattan Bar is CLOSED

One of our favorite happy hour venues, the Manhattan Bar, served its last beer, and is now closed due to a lease dispute. Bar owner Manon said she intends to reopen in a different location.

How unfortunate. We had memorable moments at Manhattan, especially during the "ladies drink for free" promotion (it's true!), which ran for a couple of weeks. During this period, we had record-breaking turnouts.

We'll miss you Manon!
